The Learning Hub

Hi, my name is Carli Bell. I am a senior in Environmental Engineering with a minor in Physics. I am the president of Habitat for Humanity here at FGCU, and I work with Kimley-Horn on their surface water team doing storm water design and master planning. Outside of school, I love to watch hockey, bake all sorts of desserts, play board games with my roommates, and go on fun adventures! I'm so excited to share what I've learned during my time at FGCU.

Hey, my name is Richard, and I am a senior in the Software Engineering department. I am working in the Learning Hub as a tutor for Intro to Comp. Sci, Programming 1, and Programming 2. Outside of school, I enjoy fishing, hanging out with my friends, and watching hockey with my family. Come see me on Wednesdays in the Learning Hub, and I’ll be happy to share my knowledge and help you along.

My name is Gabriel Correa, and I’m a Software Engineering student. Throughout my academic journey, I’ve been involved in software development projects, tutoring, and mentoring, which have strengthened both my technical skills and my ability to communicate complex ideas clearly. I enjoy staying active by going to the gym and playing tennis, and I’m always looking for opportunities to learn and grow. As a mentor, I’m excited to support others, exchange experiences, and build meaningful connections.

My name is Christian Hubner, and I’m a senior in Bioengineering. I like visiting different clubs and outside of school I enjoy reading and playing games. I’ve been tutoring for the learning hub for all 4 years of my time here at FGCU. I’d be more than happy to help you out with any bioengineering or intro software courses if you come to visit the Learning Hub.

Hi, my name is Peyton Johnson. I am a Senior in the Construction Management. I am the Vice President of the FGCU Tennis Club and the Treasurer for the Women in Construction Club. I enjoy playing tennis, reading online or physical books, and crocheting cute animals or clothes! My future career goal is to be either a project manager or superintendent at a general contracting organization.

My name is Scott Martin, and I am a junior Civil Engineering major. I have worked at the 
learning hub for two years now and I am working on getting an internship this summer at a 
land development firm. I just started a new scuba diving hobby this winter and I hope to 
expand it this year. Hopefully, I will have my FE license sometime this year.

My name is Thalia Mora; I am a junior Civil Engineering major here at FGCU. I have recently started interning with an engineering company in Port Charlotte, where I design site and drainage plans, septic tanks, and draw plats. This will be my second semester of being a tutor for engineering mechanics. My current goal is to pass my FE exam at the end of this year and continue to progress in my career as a civil engineer.  

I'm Peter Nguyen a software engineering major, learning to further develop my skills in fields related to data science and web development such as frontend development and machine learning to utilize into a career anywhere. I have an interest in trying out new types foods from different areas close to me.

Hi, my name is Lucas Perfetto. I am a senior in the Environmental Engineering program at FGCU and a member of the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA). I am part of an ongoing research project related to solid waste and leachate with Dr. Danley, the purpose of which is to filter leachate from landfills into a usable resource instead of treating it as waste. Outside of school, you can find me in the gym, rock climbing, or riding my motorcycle around town. I plan to obtain a PhD in Environmental Engineering after graduation and hope to one day become a professor. This is my first semester as a Learning Hub tutor, and I am excited to help as many students as I can both with coursework and as a mentor!

Hello! My name is Clayton Perry, and I am a Junior in the Civil Engineering field here at FGCU. I have worked with multiple professors and the Learning Hub to teach students Engineering Mechanics for about a year, have done research with Dr. Elshall for groundwater hydrology, and now I am currently working with Dr. Badir on helping students with Mechanics of Materials. Outside of school, I love to make music with my friend and have been working for a long time on our first videogame score album. Feel free to come to me for your questions regarding Mechanics of Materials in the Learning Hub, and I will get you situated in no time.

My name is Ryan Portell, and I am a senior studying Software Engineering. I have been involved in the development of multiple applications serving real users, in addition to working on personal side projects and software tools for my own use. Outside of school, I enjoy going to the gym, playing video games, working on my homelab, boating, exploring nature trails, and camping. After completing my bachelor’s degree, I plan to return to FGCU to pursue a master’s degree.
