“As part of FGCU’s service learning requirement, I volunteered at Franklin Park Elementary, a school in Fort Myers where several children live below the poverty line, are in the foster care system, and may suffer from homelessness. Volunteering at this school solidified my desire to become a counseling psychologist. My aspiration is to one day earn a Ph.D. in counseling or clinical psychology to treat disenfranchised children.

Your contribution towards my studies, to be honest, is the reason I am still enrolled in FGCU today. As a first-generation college student, my family and I struggled financially through the COVID-19 crisis. Thank you for awarding me the Family Council Scholarship for this academic year.”

“I grew up in a very small town in the Florida Keys, so going to FGCU was quite an adjustment. Thankfully, I found a great community through the Multicultural Leadership Development Center on campus, where I served as a mentor for incoming students this past summer. Academically, I have really pushed myself as a pre-nursing major. I plan to use the Family Council Scholarship towards my textbook and housing so I can focus on my dream career as a nurse.”

"I want to express my sincere gratitude for the support that the Parent & Family Council has provided me through this scholarship. As an international student from Lima, Peru, I enjoy helping people in my country pursue an education. I head the mathematics department in a non-profit organization, “Por un Peru Mejor”, which was created during COVID-19 pandemic help the children in my community who lost access to their schooling and teachers. My goal for this year is to start a volunteer organization in Fort Myers to become closer to the community that I am now living in.”
