The Physical Plant is proud to support the University’s mission to promote environmental
sustainability on campus
FGCU was the first University in the country to receive the National Arbor Day Award for the best Arbor Day Celebration on February 9, 2012, due to the efforts set forth
by the Tree Care Advisory Committee and FGCU’s commitment to urban forestry.
Over 100 Tree Campus USA volunteers have earned nearly 300 service-learning hours
since 2014, and Campus Beautification Day, Earth Day, and Make a Difference Day event
participants have planted over 1,000 donated native trees and 4,000 donated native
plants throughout our campus since 2009.
The University’s total reliance on Florida Power & Light Co. is reduced by 18 percent,
thanks to the power generated by rows of solar panels that tilt and rotate as they
“follow” the sun throughout the day.
Being a part of Campus Beautification Day 2016 was terrific! It provided me the opportunity to learn how to provide Florida native plants a new home, and was a wonderful atmosphere to bond with my coworkers and fellow peers.”
