Tree Campus USA

A Tree Campus University

FGCU was certified as an official Tree Campus USA university on January 9, 2010, and has met annual recertification standards since that time.

National Arbor Day Award

FGCU was the first University in the country to receive the National Arbor Day Award for the best Arbor Day Celebration on February 9, 2012, due to the efforts set forth by the Tree Care Advisory Committee and FGCU’s commitment to urban forestry.

In February, 2012, FGCU was selected to receive $5,000 grant awarded from the National Arbor Day Foundation for its work with the Tree Campus USA program. The grant was used to purchase 36 Laurel oak trees that were planted on the FGCU Library Lawn on January 20, 2012, in honor of Florida Arbor Day. The Arbor Day Foundation also supplied Tree Campus USA t-shirts, hats, gloves and lunch for 100 volunteers. Student volunteers, staff, and faculty gathered to plant the trees that now provide valuable shade in a highly visible and much used hub of campus activity.
