Civil Engineering (B.S.C.E.)


Civil Engineering concerns the conception, design, construction, and maintenance of large public and private projects. Civil Engineers are responsible for creating sustainable infrastructure that ensures the safety and welfare of the public.

The Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (B.S.C.E.) integrates core courses common across engineering programs as well as specialized courses in the various technical areas including construction, geotechnical, structural, transportation, water resources, and others. The program employs a team-based active learning philosophy that provides students with critical thinking skills required for effective and innovative engineering practice.

The mission of the B.S.C.E. degree program is to:

  • Produce graduates broadly educated in engineering approaches to problem identification and problem solving for a sustainable future for South Florida and beyond.
  • Prepare leaders for the Civil Engineering and related professions, professional licensure and practice, graduate and professional degrees and lifelong learning.
  • Provide an interdisciplinary, student-centered learning environment that values service for our community, celebrates diversity, fosters creativity and innovation, instills ethical practice, advances sustainable solutions and trains students in collaborative and professional approaches to work effectively across engineering disciplines.

Graduates of the program are making positive impacts in positions with private consulting firms, public / governmental agencies, and graduate schools not only in Florida, but also across the United States and beyond. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median salary for Civil Engineers as of 2018 was $86,640. The job outlook is projected to grow about 6% from 2018 – 2028, and Florida is one of the top 5 state employing civil engineers.
