Civil Engineering concerns the conception, design, construction, and maintenance of large public and private projects. Civil Engineers are responsible for creating sustainable infrastructure that ensures the safety and welfare of the public.

In the civil engineering program, you'll take core courses common across engineering programs as well as specialized courses in various technical areas including construction, geotechnical, structural, transportation, water resources, and more. You'll build critical thinking skills required for effective and innovative engineering work through team-based active learning in the classroom. Outside of the classroom, there are many opportunities for you to gain additional experience to complement your education, whether it's by completing an internship, working on a hands-on senior design project, or being involved with the student chapter of American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).

Graduates of the program are making positive impacts in positions with private consulting firms, public/governmental agencies, and graduate schools not only in Florida, but across the United States and beyond. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median salary for Civil Engineers as of 2023 was $95,890. The job outlook is projected to grow about 6% from 2023 – 2033, faster than the average for all occupations.

Program Progression and Additional Graduation Requirements
Students admitted to FGCU as a degree seeking student in good academic standing may declare a major in engineering. All engineering majors must satisfy the academic milestones as described in the student guidebook. Refer to the Civil Engineering (B.S.C.E.) Student Guidebook for further information on milestones.

In addition to the program requirements, students must:
- Complete a minimum of 128 credits.
- Complete a minimum of 48 of the 128 credits at the upper division (3000-4999 level).
- Earn a cumulative GPA of 2.0 for all coursework attempted at FGCU.
- Satisfy the College-Level Skills and foreign language entrance requirements.
- Satisfy the Service-Learning requirement.
- Satisfy the Civic Literacy requirement.
- Satisfy the residency requirement: 32 of the last 60 credits, including 12 credits in the major must be completed at FGCU. Also, CGN 4802 must be taken at FGCU.
- Complete the summer course enrollment requirement.
- Submit an application for graduation by the deadline listed in the FGCU Academic Calendar.

The Civil Engineering Program has formulated the following Program Educational Objectives, which describe the career and professional accomplishments that our BSCE degree program is preparing graduates to attain. In support of these objectives, the faculty have also identified the following Student Outcomes, which describe what students are expected to know and be able to do by the time of graduation.

Program Educational Objectives

Graduates of the FGCU BSCE degree program are expected to within a few years of graduation:
1. Pursue lifelong learning through continuing education and/or advanced degrees in civil engineering or other related fields,
