In this collaborative experience, typographers in Sasha Minsky’s Principles of Typography course responded to haikus and sentences developed by the student authors of Jesse Millner’s Introduction to Nature Writing course. These haikus, inspired by nature, provided a starting point for emerging typographers to develop installation typography in the forms of digital media, mixed media, and experiential installations involving light and shadow. Individuals have the opportunity to experience an innovative installation, which emerged from this unique cross-collaboration. Read more...

Neil Bender (Tampa, FL) and Jen Ray (New York, NY) meet for the first time in Fort Myers, Florida with unscripted results. Rebels at heart, each artist has created unique visual worlds through painting and installation. Ray’s warrior women occupy floating islands, fighting off unwanted intruders, while Bender’s ambiguous figures evoke mischief and pleasure. The heightened threats of terrorism and war are ever-present both nationally and abroad. These threats are experienced through a wide range of lenses including social media, international news outlets and direct exposure. Cliff Evans (Austin, TX) and Gregory Green (Tampa, FL) make work that is critical of these threats and the psychological toll they impose on everyday life. Mally Khorasantchi’s (Naples, FL) large-scale paintings incorporate elements from personal history and social commentary. With no horizon lines or perspective to give order or focus and using both bold and delicately painted abstracted symbols, lines and shapes, she seeks to convey the chaos and order found in nature and of things manmade.
