Empowering faculty to integrate Artificial Intelligence into teaching and learning at FGCU.


About the Program

The WCE AI Challenge Fellowship is a year-long initiative designed to support faculty at FGCU who are ready to explore and integrate artificial intelligence into their teaching practices. Backed by presidential support and hosted by Dendritic – the Human-Centered AI & Data Science Institute, the fellowship fosters innovation, AI literacy, and interdisciplinary impact, helping FGCU move forward on its journey to become an AI University.


Program Goals

Advance AI Literacy

Build faculty capacity to use AI tools responsibly and effectively.

Innovate in Teaching

Support integration of AI into diverse courses across disciplines.

Foster Collaboration

Create a community of practice where fellows share strategies and resources.

Generate Impactful Research

Produce output through publications, case studies, and cross-disciplinary projects.

Engage Students and Community

Design real-world, AI-enabled projects that enhance learning and serve Southwest Florida.


Fellowship Activities

Monthly workshops and meetings to exchange ideas and showcase projects.

Collaborative toolkits and resource sharing, including AI literacy modules, GitHub repositories, and sandbox environments.

Pilot projects in courses that integrate AI into assignments, problem-solving, and critical thinking.

Joint research opportunities, including surveys and multi-case studies on AI’s role in higher education.

Community engagement, connecting AI innovation with local industry and nonprofits.


Outcomes & Impact

Through the WCE AI Fellowship Program, faculty and students are:

Designing innovative AI-driven curricula across engineering, business, health, and social sciences.

Producing research outputs on AI literacy, pedagogy, and critical thinking.

Building cross-disciplinary collaborations and community partnerships.

Preparing FGCU graduates to navigate and shape an AI-enabled workforce.
