AI is changing average, which creates an opportunity to raise standards. AI is also a new form of labor and you and your students will now always be an AI boss. Using AI well, however, involves two staples of higher education: asking better questions and evaluating answers. Reframing AI literacy in this way leads to a plethora of new assignments where we can teach both writing and critical thinking while using AI in a way that raises standards rather than replacing human agency.
