The FGCU Police Department offers the following services to our FGCU Community:

Safety Escorts: Request an officer to walk with you to your office, vehicle, or on-campus apartment.

Motorist Assistance: Need a jump start? We can assist you.

Physical Security Analysis: We can assist your department by reviewing safety procedures and providing evaluations of your building, office space, or departmental area to help create a safer environment.

Traffic or Security Details: Are you holding an event on campus? Do you need assistance with traffic direction or safety? Do you need a security detail for your event? We are available to provide traffic control and security assistance.

Blue Poles: FGCU has Blue Poles located throughout campus, including parking lots and garages, providing direct access to UPD in an emergency.

RAVE Guardian App: FGCU offers a free app available to faculty, staff, and students that allows users quick access to 911, UPD, and the ability to submit tips to the University Police Department. The app also notifies faculty, staff, students, and registered visitors of critical information through text messages, email, social media, and other platforms.

Outdoor Siren: An alert siren mounted on top of the Student Union that can be heard throughout campus. If you hear the siren, seek shelter immediately and await further information.

Campus-Wide Camera System: Security cameras are located throughout campus for monitoring and safety purposes.

Investigations Unit

The Criminal Investigations Unit is tasked with following leads developed during the initial reporting of criminal activity to the University Police Department. The Criminal Investigations Division is ready to respond at any time, day or night, to the needs of crime victims or to the scene of any criminal activity, including but not limited to homicide, burglary, arson, aggravated battery, etc.

Part of the Investigations Division includes the forensic examination of crime scenes, along with the evaluation, collection, and preservation of evidence. At Florida Gulf Coast University, detectives may also utilize the services of the Office of Student Judicial Affairs in lieu of pursuing criminal charges when appropriate.

Investigative personnel receive specialized education and training in homicide investigations, sexual assault and battery, narcotics investigation and identification, interview and interrogation techniques, crime scene processing, and many other investigative disciplines. FGCU detectives work in cooperation with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.

Operation Identification

“Operation Identification” is a program based on the concept that marked items are more difficult for a thief to dispose of, as they can be traced back to the owner. Property is engraved with the owner’s driver’s license number or student ID number for identification purposes. The Department offers this service at no cost. Call 239-590-1900.
- If you have any valuable property with a serial number, we encourage you to record that number and keep it in a safe place. The information recorded should include the make, model, a brief description, approximate value, and any identifying details about the item.

- The FGCU Police Department also recommends that you register your bicycle or scooter. Simply bring your bicycle or scooter to the University Police Department, located on the north side of the Campus Support Complex. The process is quick and easy.

Fingerprinting

UPD is NO LONGER conducting fingerprinting at the University Police Department.

For questions concerning the policy or persons needing to be fingerprinted: Please contact Human Resources for information at 239-590-1400.

On September 18, 2012, the FGCU Board of Trustees approved Regulation FGCU-PR5.006 requiring background checks for all employees. On January 22, 2013 the President approved FGCU Policy 3.037 regarding background checks for employees. Current employees who have received a verified level 2 criminal background checks by FGCU University Police Department (UPD) or another agency, with the results reported to FGCU Human Resources, on or after July 1, 2012 are considered in compliance with the current policy.

The FGCU Police Department encourages all students, faculty, and staff to take an active role in campus crime prevention.

The Community Outreach Officer provides engaging programs focused on personal safety and partners with faculty, staff, students, student organizations, and community groups to promote a safe campus environment.

Additionally, FGCUPD offers presentations and educational programs for campus housing residents, fraternity and sorority life, student clubs and organizations, and university faculty and staff, addressing safe living practices, personal protection, crime prevention strategies, sexual assault awareness, drug and alcohol education, theft prevention, and other public safety topics.
