Holds Key

The University uses a system of Holds to ensure that students conduct business with the university in a timely fashion.

Students need to get in the habit of checking their holds via GULFLINE: (choose Student & Financial Aid option, then Student Records) on a regular basis so that they aren't prevented from registering for classes or changing their class schedules.

It is critical to take the steps that are necessary to remove all holds as soon as possible to allow processing time for departments, schools and agencies to send required information. Most holds restrict students from progressing with registration.

AM: Academic Milestone Hold	College Advising Staff (Based upon student's major.)	Students who have missed one or more academic milestones must meet with their advisor to discuss a plan to get back on track. Make an appointment with your advisor
AR: Account Balance – Registration	Student Account Services	$250 or more in fees are owed to the university and must be paid online or at the Enrollment Services Center in McTarnaghan Hall. Hold will prevent course registration.
DP: Account Balance – Diploma	Student Account Services	$0.01 or more in fees are owed to the university and must be paid online or at the Enrollment Services Center in McTarnaghan Hall. Hold will prevent receipt of diploma.
TH: Account Balance – Transcript	Student Account Services	$500 or more in fees are owed to the university and must be paid online or at the Enrollment Services Center in McTarnaghan Hall. Hold will prevent transcript request.
AS: Probation after Academic Suspension	Records & Registration Requirements must be completed through: Academic Advising	Students with an Academic Hold must regain their eligibility to register for classes through completion of the Academic Hold requirements. Academic Hold requirements are administered by Academic Advising.
AV: Advising Hold	Advising Staff (Based upon student's major.)	The Advising Hold is placed on a student's record when contact with advising is required. Students should review the reason listed on the Advising Hold to determine the specific advising action required.
CH: Collections	Office of the Bursar	Fees are owed to the university and must be paid at the Cashier's Office, McTarnaghan Hall.
CV: Covid - 19 Canvas Training	Records & Registration	All students are required to watch a 12 minute training video in CANVAS and certify that they watched it. Hold is resolved after training is complete. Contact details: 239-590-7980 or orr@fgcu.edu
DH: Dean of Students Hold	Dean of Students/Judicial Affairs	Student has been suspended as a result of a judicial sanction. Learn more about the conduct review process
DS: Academic Dismissal	Records & Registration Requirements must be completed through: Academic Advising	Students with an Academic Hold must regain their eligibility to register for classes through completion of the Academic Hold requirements. Academic Hold requirements are administered by Academic Advising.
FA: Financial Aid	Financial Aid & Scholarship	The financial aid hold can be applied for several reasons: Student must complete Exit Counseling -- if a student ever had loans and is graduating, falls below half time, transfers, or withdraws, then an exit counseling session is required. Student owes Title IV funds -- if a student withdraws before the 60% point of the semester and received financial aid, then they may owe funds back to the school. Student is delinquent/defaults on repayment -- the student will be required to resolve the situation with their lender and provide a default clearance letter to the financial aid office. As the student resolves each of the issues described, the hold will automatically be removed.
FH: Financial	Office of the Bursar	The Financial Hold is applied when the account is not in good financial standing with the University. To resolve this hold the student should contact the Office of the Bursar at cashiers@fgcu.edu or 239-590-1213.
HJ: Housing Judicial Hold	Housing & Residence Life	Student has an overdue and/or incomplete conduct sanctions or is involved in a pending case with Housing & Residence Life. Learn more about the residential student conduct process
IM: Immunization Hold	Student Health Services	All students must submit complete immunization records to Student Health Services prior to their first enrollment at FGCU. View Immunization Requirements
MR: Major Reselection Hold	College Advising Staff (Based upon student's major.)	Students who fail to meet the academic milestones for their program of study may be required to select another major. Students who are required to select a different major must meet with an advisor to complete a Change of Major Form. If a student knows the major they would like to select, they can contact the appropriate college to schedule an advising appointment. Make an appointment with your advisor
OR: Orientation Hold	New Student Programs	All degree-seeking undergraduate students must attend Eagle View Orientation before they can register for their first semester at FGCU.
PS: Academic Probation	Records & Registration Requirements must be completed through: Academic Advising.	Students with an Academic Hold must regain their eligibility to register for classes through completion of the Academic Hold requirements. Academic Hold requirements are administered by Academic Advising.
RH: Registrar's Hold	Records & Registration	This hold prevents students from adding/dropping classes, requesting transcripts, or viewing their academic records until they have resolved any pending issues with the university.
SA: Student Athlete Hold	Athletics Academic Services	Varsity Athletes are required to meet with Athletics Academic Services prior to course registration.
SC: Conduct Hold	Office of Student Conduct	Student has an overdue and/or incomplete conduct sanctions or is involved in a pending case. Learn more about the conduct review process
SS: Academic Suspension	Records & Registration Requirements must be completed through: Academic Advising	Students with an Academic Hold must regain their eligibility to register for classes through completion of the Academic Hold requirements. TH: Web-Transcript Accounts Receivable	Office of the Bursar	Fees are owed to the university and must be paid at the Cashier's Office, McTarnaghan Hall.
WS: Academic Warning	Records & Registration Requirements must be completed through: Academic Advising	Students with an Academic Hold must regain their eligibility to register for classes through completion of the Academic Hold requirements. There are 5 mandatory student trainings which include: Active Assailant Training, Career Ready Eagles, Hazing Prevention, Get Secure, and Wellness & Safety. HT: Final High School Transcript Hold	Undergraduate Admissions	Submit official final high school transcripts from the school that conferred your diploma.
