Starting Your Path to Success
Eagle Summer Start is an invitation-only program designed to offer select students an opportunity to get acclimated to the college experience. By starting in the summer through this specially crafted program, Eagle Summer Start students intentionally and proactively get a head start on their college credits while learning what it takes to be academically and personally successful in this next chapter of their academic career.

"This is an excellent program. The professors and staff made me see my college experience in a whole new perspective to where I can actually understand what I am learning.”
Program Components
The Eagle Summer Start program offers a variety of academic, co-curricular, and social activities that help students get acclimated to the college experience. By starting in the summer through this specially crafted program, students intentionally and proactively get a head start on their college credits while learning what it takes to be academically and personally successful in this next chapter of their academic career.
- Academic Coursework: Students are enrolled in courses with select faculty over the course of the summer semester and into the subsequent fall and spring semesters. Taking courses together with the same faculty over the course of the students’ first year builds a sense of academic and social community that will support their future success.
- Peer Mentoring: Eagle Summer Start students are connected with a peer student at Orientation who they will work with throughout their first year. Mentors will guide students through their transition to FGCU, meeting with them individually and in small groups, and connecting them to programming and activities on campus that align with their interests.
- Academic Support: Tutoring, supplemental instruction, academic coaching, and support programming will be available through the Center for Academic Achievement, which helps students learn the strategies that they need to use to be successful academically.
- Co-curricular Activities: Students will have the opportunity to engage with campus partners and departments to learn about the various co-curricular opportunities that exist on campus, such as service learning, academic support, internships, career development, research, and leadership – all experiences that support student success and achievement while at FGCU.
- Social Engagement: A variety of social events will be hosted throughout the summer B term. From pool parties to game nights, there is always something happening on-campus that students can participate in to make friends and memories.
- Housing and Dining in South Village (SOVI): Eagle Summer Start students will live together with all first-year students in South Village and will have access to a meal plan to use at dining facilities on campus, including SOVI Dining.

"I enjoyed how my professors taught in different strategies and techniques, making new material easy to grasp.”
