Check out the opportunities below and consider applying today! Questions should be directed to ServiceLearning@fgcu.edu.
Eagle Civic FellowToggle More Info
Previously known as the Newman Civic Fellow, this honor is awarded to one student each year who exemplifies a passion and dedication to service-learning and civic engagement. Students should also have evidence of a willingness and internal motivation to create social change. Supported by the president of the university and facilitated by the Office of Service-Learning & Civic Engagement, a student receiving this honor will serve as a role model for others while also having opportunities to take advantage of deeper level growth and development opportunities on a larger-than-regional scale. Learn more about our current and past Eagle Civic Fellows here: https://compact.org/newman-civic-fellow/autumn-crosley/
Deadline: The deadline to apply is the second Friday of classes in each spring semester. All materials must be received by that date to be considered.
Excellence In Civic Engagement AwardToggle More Info
The Excellence In Civic Engagement Award is a highly competitive honor available to a maximum of ten graduating seniors each semester (fall, spring, and summer). In addition to recognition, this award also comes with a certificate and a special stole to wear during graduation. Although there is a minimum number of service-learning hours required to be considered, this award is much more about the impact of a student’s service-learning experiences on their own growth, development, and career preparation, as well as their impact on specific social issues in the community. Students are strongly encouraged to review the evaluation rubric for this award prior to completing and submitting their applications. See past recipients linked below as prime examples of the amazing work that has landed previous students this high honor.
The minimum number of hours required to apply for this award is dependent on a student’s required number of service-learning hours.
- For students required to complete 40 service-learning hours, the minimum number of service-learning hours needed to be considered for this award is 200.
- For students required to complete 80 service-learning hours, the minimum number of service-learning hours needed to be considered for this award is 400.
Deadline: The deadline to apply is three weeks prior to the last Tuesday of classes each semester. All materials must be received (and all service-learning hours tracked and verified in Eagle Service Network) by that date to be considered.
