Music Therapy BMT

Research and Innovation in Practice

The FGCU Bachelor of Music Therapy (B.M.T.) program helps students develop the musical, clinical, and professional skills needed to excel in the music therapy profession. We emphasize the application of music in promoting health, wellness, and well-being for individuals and communities. Our evidence-based approach promotes critical thought, fosters clinical musicianship, and incorporates recent advances in technology.

BMT students learn from world-class musicians and music therapy leaders, and engage regularly with individuals and communities throughout southwest Florida. (An overview of affiliated clinical sites can be found here.) Graduates of the degree are eligible to sit for the national examination in music therapy administered by the Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT). Upon passing this examination, they earn the credential Music Therapist-Board Certified (MT-BC). The BMT degree also prepares students for graduate education in music therapy. Further, as accomplished musicians and having engaged with the health sciences, students completing this degree may also pursue graduate study in related disciplines.
