Staff Academic Advisory

Academic FAQs for staff

I’m a staff member. Am I looking at a six-day workweek?
Not necessarily. We will maintain the same level of service on Saturdays and Sundays as has always been offered by the university. If you have concerns, please check with your direct supervisors. If your position is required to support the class schedule change on Saturdays (ex. lab coordinators) you may have to work on Saturdays. All staff are encouraged to meet with their supervisor to discuss how this change will impact their position.

Will the facilities be fully ready for campus opening?  Is the campus safe?
The campus is safe and ready for operations, and we fully expect the main campus to be ready for normal operations ahead of Monday, Oct. 10.  Additionally, University Police continue to be on full duty, securing the safety of the faculty, staff, students and property.

Will payroll be impacted?
No. The payroll team has been working diligently to continue payroll processing without any interruptions. All employees can count on regular payroll cycles going forward.

I had an event scheduled and/or will have one soon. What is the status?
Campus Reservations will contact all event organizers whose functions were impacted during the closure and those scheduled for the week of reopening to verify scheduling. If you have questions, please contact Campus Reservations.  Eagle Expo and Eagle Family Weekend are postponed, and dates will be announced when they are rescheduled.

Will food services be available on campus?
Yes, we continue to offer food on campus.

What can be expected in terms of technology?

The campus technology infrastructure is fully operational. The ITS team is verifying functionality in classrooms and meeting spaces to be sure the campus is ready for the Oct. 10 opening.

If I have a technology question, what should I do?

The Help Desk has limited availability until Thursday, Oct. 6. It will become fully operational on Friday, Oct. 7.

What if I have questions about benefits or other personnel matters before normal campus operations resume?
For benefits-related questions, employees should call the People First Service Center at 866-663-4735 until FGCU resumes full operations Monday, Oct. 10. FGCU faculty and staff can also contact the Employee Assistance Program (EAP), which is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The toll-free number is 833-746-8337. and the website is: www.mylifeexpert.com. Use company code: Florida. Starting Friday, Oct. 7, FGCU will open walk-in on-campus services for the EAP from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Cohen Student Union.

Among the resources offered are:

  • Counseling and support
  • Legal services
  • Financial services
  • Eldercare support and resources
  • Childcare support and resources

Will normal administrative and financial offices be operational?
Administrative Services & Finance expects all offices to be fully operational Monday, Oct. 10. With the challenges facing so many employees, some services may be delivered via remote employees or might take a little longer than usual.

Do we have to adhere to the curfew?

Yes. There are a limited number of courses impacted by these time constraints, and those instructors will be contacted.

I cannot return to work by Oct. 10. Will my compensation be affected?

Please contact Human Resources.
