Intro to Ombuds' Services: The Ombuds Office helps to empower students, staff, and faculty to navigate challenges related to their experiences at Florida Gulf University. In this session, participants will be introduced to a range of free services from the Ombuds Office, our perspectives on conflict as a tool for innovation, and our key approaches to navigating challenging situations.

This presentation will also include scenarios of typical challenges brought to the Ombuds, the standards & ethics we follow, and how to access our services. Information sessions are 15 minutes for a brief introduction to the office, but can be shortened or extended as needed.

Intro to Conflict Management: Understanding Your Conflict Dynamics Profile (CDP): This session starts with pre-work: completing a 20-minute online Conflict Dynamics Profile (CDP) assessment before the individual meeting. During our meeting, you will learn about both helpful and unhelpful behaviors in conflict as well as specific “hot buttons” that tend to draw out unhelpful behaviors. Designed to enhance your personal ability to navigate conflict, we will provide an overview of conflict processes and opportunities to reflect on your CDP results.

Overview of the Student Complaint Process and Ways to Report A Concern: In this session we will provide an overview of the ways to report concerns (informal and formal). The presentation may also be expanded to others policies and processes within the university. An overview may be 30-60 minutes but can be shortened or extended as needed.

Crucial Conversations: (Coming Soon) Crucial Conversations provides a process for engaging in dialogue when stakes are high, opinions differ, and emotions are strong – especially if the conversation is being avoided. These sessions are in-person and include practice/discussion. This course is expected to be offered a couple times throughout the year. 

Developing a Mentoring Relationship: This presentation explores concepts, strategies, and resources for building more psychologically safe environments. Open communication that includes many different perspectives builds understanding and trust that is key. Each participant will be provided a personal operations manual that outlines your working style, communication preferences, and expectations. The purpose is to fosters transparency, avoids misunderstandings, and sets clear guidelines for effective collaboration.

Expect 30-60 minutes but can be shortened or extended as needed.
