This year, the International Virginia Woolf Society is pleased to launch the Suzanne
Bellamy Travel Fund, an initiative that honors the late artist and Woolf scholar Suzanne
Bellamy and helps support the cost of traveling to the Annual Conference on Virginia
Woolf. While the application for support will be open to all, the subcommittee charged
with reviewing applications will prioritize students, international travelers, folks
in contingent/precarious positions, and others in need of financial support. To be
eligible for support, travel fund applicants must [1] be members of the IVWS, [2]
be presenting a paper at the Annual Conference, and [3] have already registered for
the conference. News about when applications for the travel fund will open will be
distributed well ahead of that opening: on the Woolf listserv, on social media, and
via email to the society membership. The IVWS envisions travel grants up to $300.00
per awardee, though the amount and the number of awardees will depend on donations.
Farrah Alkhadra is a mixed media artist currently based in Fort Myers, Florida. She
works in many materials, from paper to steel. Her style, which is described as kinetic
and distinctive, is present throughout her pieces regardless of media. Her large scale
installations and mixed media artworks are filled with saturated color to attract
the viewer. When creating her installations, Alkhadra focuses on techniques and her
execution to result in a seamless product with an extremely tactile nature. With her
work being multilayered and often nonrepresentional, her primary goal is to invite
the viewer to make new personal associations in relation to her work and create uniquely
independent meaning.
