Student-led, student-focused
Consisting of five committees: Finance, Social, Service, Scholarship, and Procedural the Student Senate serves as the primarily student leadership role for the Honors College. Student Senators create opportunities for the Honors community and draft and review policies in partnership with the Honors Executive Board and Honors College Director. The Senate meets bi-weekly and includes representatives from each academic year.

Social
Toggle More InfoThe Social Committee is responsible for ensuring that Honors maintains a sense of community throughout the school year. Their duties, listed below, will ensure that Honors students are provided with the social and networking opportunities that will allow them to take full advantage of everything that Honors has to offer.
Duties
- Plan, organize, and gather volunteers for all Honors signature events.
- Assist with Annual Welcome Back in the fall
- Host the Honors Open Forum Event in the spring
- Table for the general promotions of Honors
- Update Social Committee Event Handbook
Chair Responsibilities:
- Set the Committees semester goals and ensure that they are achieved
- Help gather and organize volunteers at Honors Events
- Maintain an updated policy guideline for the acceptance of Honors Event Request Form

Procedural
Toggle More InfoThe Procedural Committee is responsible for the quality of the Senate. They will evaluate Senate's effectiveness and ensure that the senators and committees fulfill their duties.
Duties
- Asses and adjust the Senate policy when necessary
- Determine which committee is responsible for any duties not addressed in the Honors College Student Senate Constitution
- Elect one member of the Senate every year to serve as the Senate Secretary as a member of the Procedural Committee
- Keep minutes and take attendance at meetings
- Hold Honors Probation Appeals
- Handle suggestions made to the Honors College
- Ensure all Honors documents are up to date and effective
- Oversee elections
Chair Responsibilities:
- Have a standing meeting with the Honors Director
- Create agendas and run Senate meetings
- Ensure that all attendance records and minutes are posted to Canvas following the scheduled meetings
- Assign duties to all students involved in the elections process
- Find volunteers for Probation Appeals
- Update applicable Honors documents
- Post updates to Canvas page following every meeting
Secretary Responsibilities:
- Create and maintain an excel attendance point sheet for all Senators
- Track excused and unexcused absences
- Record minutes of every meeting and post minutes to Canvas page
- Run the meeting the absence of the Procedural Chair
- Maintain meeting attendance. If more than two meetings are missed a new senator will be elected as Secretary

Scholarship
Toggle More InfoThe Scholarship Committee is responsible to provide Honors Students with opportunities to engage in scholarly activities and develop in a professional environment. This committee strives to provide students with the ability to present research, share accomplishments, and network with faculty and invited guests. Through the efforts of the Scholarship committee, we hope that students will become prepared to step out into the world of academia and proudly represent Florida Gulf Coast University and the Honors College.
Duties:
- Hold an annual Honors College Student Symposium
- Design other scholarly activities for Honors students
- Host an annual Honors College Faculty/Faculty Fellows Symposium
Chair Responsibilities:
- Prepare a selection committee for the Honors College Student Symposium and ensure the event planning is conducted properly
- Establish a well-functioning group of students equipped to plan both of the annual symposiums
- Work in correlation with the Procedural Chair and the Honors College Director and staff for details of faculty schedules and ideas for the events.

Finance
Toggle More InfoThe Finance Committee is responsible for fundraising and managing Honors merchandise. The duties listed below will ensure that an adequate effort is being made to increase the Honors College’s budget.
Duties:
- Host an Honors fundraising event every semester
- Produce an annual budget report for all signature Honors events
- Oversee the designing and ordering of Honors merchandise
- Promote the sale of Honors merchandise
Chair Responsibilities:
- Set the committees semester goals and ensuring that they are achieved
- Ensure that the annual budget report is accurate and is approved by the Senate
- Uphold the integrity of Honors in all merchandising and fundraising endeavors
- Promote Honors Student Body involvement in Honors fundraising and merchandising

Service
Toggle More InfoThe Service Committee is responsible for bringing service-learning opportunities to Honors students throughout the year. The duties listed below will ensure that Honors students have many opportunities to perform meaningful service.
Duties:
- Establish community partnerships with local nonprofits and service organizations
- Plan and promote service-learning events specifically for Honors students
- Organize groups of Honors so participate in service opportunities hosted by the university and other community organizations
- Aid in the preparation of the Honors signature service event
Chair Responsibilities:
- Oversee the planning of service events
- Work with Senate and the Honors Media Team to promote Honors service events
- Oversee the volunteers at each event
- Manage/delegate the sign-in at Honors service events
