Working with a faculty committee, you defend a scholarly product appropriate for your discipline in terms of depth, format and thesis guidelines, while conforming to the scope and rigor of the Honors College.
Proposal
The student chooses a faculty mentor and works with them to devise a proposal. They submit the proposal to the college for approval for review.
Course Requirements
Student is required to take IDH 4975 which will prepare them to produce quality work and recognition.
Defense
Once the student is ready to defend, the college will schedule a date for defense. The decision to defend must be approved by their mentor and the college.
Timeline
Since an Honors Thesis requires significant work and takes time. Therefore, it is strongly recommended that students submit their proposal at least three semesters before their defense. Typically, this would be during a student's junior year.
Guidance
Students will receive guidance both from the college and their mentor(s) during the entire process toward a successful defense.
Recognition
Students will be recognized during the Honors Graduation Ceremony for defending an Honors Thesis.
Library Collection
Student defense will be published in the Honors Thesis collection in the Library to the public and global recognition. Approval from the student, their mentor and thesis defense committee, and the college is required to publish.
