Preparing Design Professionals From Ideation to Implementation in Diverse Organizational Settings

We're preparing instructional designers to develop engaging educational materials for a variety of settings, including K-12, higher education, and corporate and government training.

This fully online 36-credit degree program can be completed in as little as 12 months. Students can start the program in any semester (fall, spring, or summer).

The fully online M.A. Instructional Design & Ed Tech (IDET) program is designed for students seeking opportunities in instructional design, instructional technology, educational media, and applied research in learning settings (e.g., PK-12, higher education, museums/libraries/non-profits, and other industry training environments). The program standards target competencies based on current industry needs in positions such as instructional designer, instructional technologist, learning experience designer, digital leader, curriculum developer, and learning management system (LMS) specialist. This practitioner-focused program integrates innovative case based learning in collaboration with our industry and education partners.

Program Admission Requirements

Applicants who meet the minimum requirements for consideration may not necessarily be admitted into the program. Students must:
- Submit an FGCU Graduate Admissions Application and satisfy all applicable university admissions requirements.
- Have a four-year undergraduate degree from a regionally accredited
- Have a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale for the last 60 semester hours attempted accruing to the undergraduate degree
- Submit three favorable recommendations from working professionals in the field.
- International graduate applicants are required to submit a minimum TOEFL score of 550 (paper-based test) or 213 (computer-based test) or 79 (internet-based test), or a minimum IELTS score of 6.5, unless otherwise specified by the program.
Applicants who do not meet all of the above requirements, including minimum GPA, may be considered on a case-by-case basis as University exceptions and may be required to submit further requirements as determined by the program.

Program Progression and Additional Graduation Requirements
- Students must satisfactorily complete the minimum number of credits specified by the program.
- A grade of B or higher must be earned in all College of Education graduate courses.
- An overall GPA of 3.0 or higher in all work attempted.
- The College of Education limits the transfer of coursework into its graduate programs to a maximum of three courses or 12 credits. To be considered, courses must have been completed with a minimum grade of B and no more than seven years prior to the date of entry into the graduate program and no more than ten years prior to graduation from the graduate program. The courses must be approved by the college dean or designee.
- Up to a maximum of 18 credit hours earned from courses taken at FGCU and those that are a part of an approved Certificate may be applied to the master's degree if those courses are part of that program. Applying these courses requires approval of the college dean or designee in conjunction with the Office of Academic and Curriculum Support, and the Office of Graduate Studies.
- Submit an application for graduation by the semester deadline listed in the FGCU Academic Calendar.
- Students must register for a minimum of one credit during the semester in which they apply for graduation.
- Earn more than 50% of the credits toward the degree through FGCU.
