FGCU Entrepreneurship Major Nick Vargas

Nick Vargas - Corporate Entrepreneur

Nick Vargas (‘19) was drawn to entrepreneurship education when he realized his classes could help him in his professional aspirations. While he has dreams of someday starting a family business, he is gaining business experience now as a Project Management System Administrator for the Hertz Corp., headquartered in nearby Estero, Florida. He helps individual project teams create and manage workflow and also manages the marketing content on the company’s website. His transition to work life was made easier by learning these exact skills of managing an online presence in his digital technologies class offered by the School of Entrepreneurship. His positive experiences at FGCU were vital to his growth as a person and as a young professional. Nick exemplifies the spirit of entrepreneurship at FGCU: learning new skills to be a value creating and productive citizen, regardless of the context.

Nick credits the entrepreneurship program for helping him establish professional and innovative skills to perform in the corporate world. He believes that today’s business leaders are experts at discovering new opportunities for growth and at executing strategic plans.

Hertz uses the same ‘lean startup methodology’ in their company that he learned as a student in the entrepreneurship major. While the company is very large, it too needs to start new projects small and prove their effectiveness before they are adopted company-wide.

“The hands-on aspect of the education you get at FGCU is incredible. It's great when you have professors willing to put in the extra time to help you outside class.”
