E-Commerce FAQs

E-Commerce Activity is defined as the processing of orders and payments over the internet and other computer networks within Florida Gulf Coast University.

TouchNet is the University-supported software for e-commerce transactions.  In order to accept credit cards as a form of payment, departments must use TouchNet or TouchNet-Ready Partners.

Anyone who accepts, processes, or transmits/stores cardholder data.

If applicable, sales tax needs to be collected via online stores and cashiering stations. FGCU Finance & Accounting staff will assist in this decision.

All cashiering sessions must be closed at the end of business nightly.

Marketplace is a secure, web-based shopping cart application with online payment pages. The application provides the University Departments with the ability to accept credit cards as a means of online payment for products (i.e. non-student receivable goods or services).

Any University Department can request a Marketplace store.

Florida Law states each sale or admission charge is taxable.  Some activities requiring payment of tax are: retail items, charge of admission and selling services.  To determine if your department will need to collect tax, contact the Auxiliary Accounting Coordinator in the Finance & Accounting Office.

When Marketplace receives an order for a product using the Auto Fulfill option, Marketplace first sends an authorization request to the Payment Gateway and
immediately follows the authorization request with a settlement request (after Payment Gateway receives acknowledgement of the authorization and provides an identifying number). Products using the Auto Fulfill option do not go through the fulfillment process and must be fullfilled manually within TouchNet.
