FGCU offers generous leave benefits to its benefits-eligible employees. Each employee appointed to an Administrative & Professional, Support Personnel, or Faculty position accrues leave hours each bi-weekly pay period. Accruals for part-time employees is prorated based on the appointed FTE.

FGCU recognizes that there will be occasions when our employees will need to be away from work because of circumstances not of their own making. We provide paid leave to Faculty, A&P and SP employees. Types of special leaves include Jury Duty, Bereavement, and Military Training.
Family Medical Leave
Family Medical Leave is a federal law that requires employers to provide employees with 12 weeks or 480 hours of job-protected leave for qualified medical and family reasons. Employees are eligible if they have worked 1,250 hours during the 12 months prior to the leave. At FGCU Faculty, A&P, SP, and OPS employees may be eligible for leave.

Sick Leave Pool
FGCU provides Faculty, A&P and SP employees with the ability to join the voluntary Sick Leave Pool. The pool is intended for employees who are experiencing a serious health condition. In order to be eligible to join the SLP, the employee has to have completed one year of service and contribute 8 hours of personal sick leave, while maintaining at least 64 hours in their leave bank. The maximum number of hours an employee can receive from the SLP is 480.
Personal Leave Donations
All Faculty, A&P and SP employees may donate their personal accrued leave to another employee who is experiencing, or has an eligible family member who is experiencing a serious medical condition. An employee cannot receive more than 480 hours of donated time in any twelve-month cycle, including any hours received in the same twelve-month cycle from the sick leave pool. The Donor must maintain at minimum of 80 hours combined of annual and sick leave.
