The Digital Learning Instructional Design team will facilitate an online book club experience. The reading community will take place entirely online in Canvas over a four-week period beginning Wednesday, October 21st. Participation will include weekly optional synchronous sessions and asynchronous discussion/sharing.

Access to the current e-book selection, 99 Tips for Creating Simple and Sustainable Educational Videos by Karen Costa, is available to all faculty and staff through the FGCU Library. If interested, please register to be invited to the Canvas course.

What is the topic?

Teacher presence, media integration, and online scaffolding

Why is it important?

  • Building regular, positive, and interactive relationships with students is the key to a successful online learning experience (Jaggers & Xu, 2016).
  • Using video for tutorials, models, and feedback creates a multi-dimensional communication platform that encourages students to persist (validates students).
  • Design a new course
  • Save instructor time and effort in otherwise text heavy online courses.
