CAPS After Hours Help

Dr. Brunner sent some information as a follow up from our last meeting. There are additional options for students looking for help after the regular hours for in-person help at CAPS. UWill is an online option, and "many students have their first session within hours of profile completion."

Board of Governors Meeting 3/28-3/29

This most relevant action of the BOG at this meeting to FGCU is the approval of our Student Success Plan report and the release of the rest of our state funding. The BOG also approved the Post-Tenure Review Regulation 10.003. There were 13 requests for public comment at the meeting, and all those that appeared spoke in opposition to Regulation 10.003. The regulation was removed from the consent agenda and the only opposition votes came from the student and faculty representatives.

ACFS and Legislative Updates

I went with the Advisory Council of Faculty Senates (ACFS) to visit legislators on Monday to talk potential unintended consequences of HB999/SB266. We were able to meet with staffers from two offices and two representatives themselves. We were able to offer concerns about the DEI requirements of grant funding organizations and professional accreditors. We also talked about the impact of pending legislation on hiring and recruitment of faculty. In general, it seems that some version of the bill is destined to pass.

Upcoming BOT Meeting

The Board of Trustees is meeting April 11. The full agenda packet is available,  online.

Presidential Search Updates

The search advisory committee convened last week to narrow their field of about 70 applicants to 7-8 semifinalists. The semifinalist interviews are scheduled to occur next week, April 4-6. This part of the search is happening in the "shade." Once finalists are named that will be made public.
