Student Spotlight of the Week

October 12, 2020  / Tags: Physical Therapy, DPT Student, Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, Student Spotlight

This week's Student Spotlight goes to second year Physical Therapy student Maya Rose. Maya was born in Columbus, Ohio but raised in Wellington, FL. She first became interested in Physical Therapy during career day in her Junior year of High School. The mother of one of her classmates was a Pediatric Physical Therapist and hosted a table to discuss the profession with students. However, Maya changed her mind a few times. She has a bachelor's degree in Psychology from UCF because at one point she considered pursuing a Ph.D. in Neuroscience.

I love working with people, I love being able to teach others new skills that could improve their lives

Then she shifted gears again and considered teaching after working as a substitute teacher for a couple of years. Finally, Maya stuck with PT because she realized it was a field that combined many things that she enjoys. Maya says "I love working with people, I love being able to teach others new skills that could improve their lives, and I find the brain absolutely fascinating. This last point is part of why I am especially interested in working with the Neuro PT population". When she's not studying, you can find Maya enjoying spending time with her friends, watching tv, singing, listening to music, and reading when she can.
