Student Spotlight of the Week

June 29, 2020  / Tags: Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, Occupational therapy, Student Spotlight

This Monday's Student Spotlight goes to Occupational Therapy student, Sarah Matz. Sarah is originally from Clearwater Beach, FL, but currently resides in Palm Harbor with her husband and her pups Wilfred and Iliza. She graduated FGCU in 2012 with an undergrad in Communications but decided to return to pursue a career in Occupational Therapy. Sarah chose occupational therapy because she feels like it uses a holistic approach, treating not only the physical, but also the mental wellbeing of a person. Sarah is currently open to working in any field of OT, stating that “I originally wanted to work in pediatrics upon entering the program. After my first Level I Fieldwork experience at a skilled nursing facility, I have found that I love working with an elderly population as well.”

In her downtime, Sarah enjoys anything related to health and fitness. She loves being out in the water, with one of her favorite activities being paddle boarding.  While not on the water, Sarah enjoys cooking plant-based meals, citing sustainability as a core value of hers. You can catch Sarah at various volunteering events, since she is the philanthropy chair for the Student Occupational Therapy Association!
