Student Spotlight of the Week

October 26, 2020  / Tags: Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, Student Spotlight, Exercise Science

This week, our Student Spotlight goes to first year Exercise Science student, Sydney Maybaum. Sydney is originally from a little town north of Orlando called Debary. In her free time, she loves to go on walks in nature, go to the different beaches in SWFL, amusement parks, and concerts. Sydney also enjoys dancing. She chose FGCU because when she came to tour the school, she spoke to seniors in the Exercise Science program and they made her feel so comfortable and excited to start college. “They were so genuine and had so much knowledge about not only the program, but ways to make an impact on campus” Sydney states. Sydney also fell in love with the how beautiful FGCU’s campus was. She thinks students at FGCU are so lucky to live and learn in a place where people from around the country come to vacation.

When she graduates, Sydney hopes to get into grad school and become a Physical Therapy for athletes. She chose this path because in high school she tore her ACL when she was  on the school’s dance team and ended up spending a very long time in physical therapy. During her time at PT she learned so much about the profession and what really goes into being a physical therapist. Her PT quickly became a friend and was a big factor in her decision to pursue PT and treat the athlete population.
