If you are interested pursuing your Master's in Accounting, but you do not have a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, we have the program for you. FGCU has strategically designed a curriculum for students with a Business undergraduate degree that is not Accounting, providing one of the most affordable ways to complete your prerequisites and get started on your Master's degree right away. If students choose to go full-time, this accelerated program can put you on track to complete your prerequisites and complete your degree in as little as two years.
This program offers a balanced approach to accounting and taxation. Many jobs that will exist 5 to 10 years from now do not exist today. Thus, the focus is not just on advanced technical competence in accounting and/or taxation, the effective use of technology in research and practice, effective communications with colleagues, clients and other stakeholders of diverse backgrounds, and ethical responsibilities but also on the development of life-long learning skills to maintain professional competence.
Students may also elect a concentration in analytics. The analytics concentration includes courses in Business Analytics, Big Data and Data Mining, Business Intelligence (BI) and Visualization.

The curriculum is designed with a balance of self-paced instruction and collaborative sessions. According to U.S. News and World Report, the national average cost of a Master's degree in Accounting ranges from $24,000 to $72,000.
The total cost for FGCU's online MS in Accounting and Taxation program is approximately $11,202 (30 credits, $373.38 per credit). Traditionally, this cost was reserved for Florida residents only, however all non-Florida residents that start this Fall (2021) will receive an out-of-state tuition waiver. This means all applicants will pay the in-state cost (373.38 vs. $1,300.66 per credit), adding up to a savings over $27,800 for out-of-state students.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Accountants and Auditors should expect continued job growth between 2019 to 2029. BLS also states that the median salary for accountants and auditors was $71,550, with the top 10% of accounting earners making over $124,000 per year.

Faculty Spotlight: Associate Professor of Accounting, Dr. Adrian Valencia (PhD, CPA), publishes research regularly in audit and financial accounting. He has published in accounting academic journals such as Contemporary Accounting Research, Accounting Horizons, International Journal of Auditing, Advances in Taxation, and Advances in Accounting.
Dr. Valencia is a Certified Public Accountant, having earned the 6th highest CPA score in Florida, and he has work experience as an auditor at Arthur Andersen and as a financial accountant. Dr. Valencia's primary teaching interests are financial accounting reporting and fraud examinations.
