The Worthington Golf and Country Club community came together during their annual Closing Scramble on April 25, 2026, to support Eagles Fore FGCU, raising $6,200 for the program. Located in Southwest Florida, Worthington Golf and Country Club is a member owned golf community known for its active lifestyle, championship course, and strong sense of community engagement. With 230 participants, this year’s total more than doubled last year’s contribution and reflects a growing investment in student success.

A highlight of the event was Lutgert College of Business PGA Golf Management intern Preston Smith recording a Hole in One on hole # 18, creating a memorable moment for players and supporters.

Eagles Fore FGCU directly benefits the PGA Golf Management program at Florida Gulf Coast University. The funds are used to support the mentor program, industry certification scholarships, and other areas needed to support the program. The Lutgert College of Business’ PGA Golf Management Program is one of only 16 PGA accredited programs in the nation and the only one in Florida. The program is highly selective and prepares students through a structured academic experience paired with a required 16 months of paid internships across the golf industry under the direction of the PGM Internship Director.

The impact of the program is reflected within the Worthington Golf and Country Club community itself. Recent graduates Federico Torresani and Jack Manna currently serve as Worthington Assistant Golf Professionals, while former assistant Kyle Horvath is also an FGCU PGA alumnus. Preston Smith, who contributed to this year’s event highlight, is a current junior in the program and part of this growing network.

Students gain experience in areas such as business planning, turfgrass management, golf facility operations, golf merchandising, human resources management and three distinct golf instruction classes focused on teaching the game, club-fitting, using state-of the-art instructional technology and developing a teaching business.  Students have the opportunity to connect with over 500 local PGA professionals while building industry experience throughout the program. Graduates earn a Bachelor of Science in PGA Golf Management and are eligible for election to PGA of America membership after securing full-time employment in the golf industry.

The continued support from Worthington members and the Worthington Golf and Country Club Charitable Foundation plays a meaningful role in expanding opportunities for students, strengthening the connection between students and industry, and enhancing the overall program experience.
