Issue Brief: Hurricane Storm Surge Flood Zones in Florida
June 17, 2021 / RERI Research Team / Tags: Issue Brief, Reports
When operating a business in Florida, one factor a business owner should always be prepared for is a hurricane impact. While hurricanes can bring a number of serious hazards (including heavy rains, high winds, and tornadoes), one of the most damaging hazards a hurricane can present is a possibility of a storm surge. Storm surges are produced by hurricanes when winds from the storm force sea water toward the land, resulting in massive flooding issues within a county. Storm surges can inflict significant damage to a business that may result in the need for repair, shutting down or reduced operations, or some combination of the two.
