In our last report, we noted there was a blurred picture when it came to the national economy. This national scenario remains true for the latest report as well, as businesses and workers continue to navigate a period of economic uncertainty. In an effort to stabilize inflation, the Federal Reserve increased the federal funds rate by 0.75 basis points in November 2022, representing the highest level since January 2008. There is still some debate among economists as to whether this will produce a recession. While the housing market has been cooling down, consumers continue to maintain their expenditure level.

Issue Brief: Working from Home in Southwest Florida

When the Covid-19 pandemic first arrived to Southwest Florida in early 2020, workers and employers began to reevaluate the office setting. Workers who were accustomed to commuting to an office every day were suddenly asked to work from home as a means to reduce the spread of the virus. As time passed, vaccines and antiviral medication were developed as methods for preventing and combating the virus, but working from home still remained a popular choice when it comes to the modality of work. In this issue brief, we analyze how the work from home environment has changed in Southwest Florida coastal counties since the Covid-19 pandemic.
