Accounting Alumna Wins Horizon Award

Courtney Crowley, CPA has been honored among the winners of the Florida Institute of CPAs’ (FICPA) Horizon Awards, recognizing young certified public accountants (CPAs) at the forefront of the profession.

Courtney earned both her Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and her Master’s degree in Accounting and Taxation from FGCU’s Lutgert College of Business. She is now a Senior Associate in the Litigation Support, Forensic Accounting and Mediation Services division of Markham Norton Mosteller Wright & Company, P.A., a public accounting and consulting firm with offices in both Fort Myers and Naples. Before entering public accounting, her experience included three years in the nonprofit and government industries.

While an undergrad at FGCU, Courtney was named the Lutgert College of Business’s Outstanding Undergraduate Student for 2018. She put herself through school working full-time as the Coordinator of Finance and Administration for the Community Cooperative, a local nonprofit whose mission is to eliminate hunger and homelessness in Lee County. After Hurricane Irma destroyed her home and most of her belongings, Courtney salvaged what she could and then redoubled her efforts to assist her community, preparing and delivering meals to homebound seniors, performing wellness checks in the community, and loading and unloading mobile pantry trucks. Courtney explains:

I am proud to have made it to a place in my life where I can provide services that are desperately needed to others like me. I am committed to making a difference in my community through my profession. My passion for accounting and humanitarianism is strongly rooted in the way I grew up.

That passion is what the FICPA Horizon Awards are all about. “We commend these young CPAs for striving for excellence and for the contributions they’ve made to the profession and the FICPA,” said FICPA chief operating officer Donna Son.
