Who can request funds?

Individual full-time in-unit faculty and full-time staff may make requests for funds
that support their scholarship and/or professional development. Faculty are not eligible to apply for activities that will occur during a period when
they will be on sabbatical or professional development leave.

How much can be requested and how often?

One request per employee per academic year for up to $1500 can be requested. Plans to cover additional expenses above this amount should be outlined in the application.

How much lead time to do I need before making a request?

Requests are processed on a rolling basis. Please provide a minimum of least 6 weeks to process your request. The earlier the better. If you do not have that much time,
please contact Lyndsay Rhodes in the Dean’s office to describe the circumstances.

What kinds of activities or expenses will be considered?

- Travel to present at conferences, attend professional development workshops, or scholarly
pursuits
- Expenses related to instrumentation training, continuing education course(s), or certification(s)
- Expenses related to publication or production of scholarly materials
- Expenses to enhance classroom teaching capabilities
- Other activities may be considered that we have not thought of yet, please make the
case.

What kinds of activities are not fundable through this source?

- Small equipment or lab supplies
- Computer hardware and software (specialized software for research purposes may be
considered)
- Departmental/Program activities
- Travel to attend meetings to gain knowledge and network only
- Faculty or student stipends/salaries

How will decisions be made on my application?

Decisions will be made by the Dean’s office and are based on the availability of funds
and completeness and quality of application. Please be as descriptive as possible
on the application. Award decisions will be communicated to the faculty and their supervisor.

If funded, will I have to provide a report of my activities?

Yes. Within two weeks of reimbursement/purchase/return from travel, provide a one-page
reflection on your experience and the value that it has added to the professional
development of you personally, your department, the college and the institution. To
grow the current and future funding of this program, please also provide at least
one photograph demonstrating the completion of your activity. Faculty who do not follow
through with the funding requirements may not be eligible for CAS funding awards in
subsequent years. If you have questions about this based on your activity, contact
Lyndsay Rhodes in the Dean’s office.

These funds are available until funding is exhausted. Applications submitted after
this time will be notified and placed on a waitlist in order of submission. Awards
will only be made if more funds become available.
